Embrace The Girlie Girl
Just saw a Facebook post about someone trying to get their little girl to play “boy” games instead of doing her hair, painting her nails and playing with her Barbie. I don’t know why but this really bothers me. What’s wrong with being a girl? If a girl WANTS to play with trucks, she will. But, in my opinion, being a girl is beautiful thing. Trying to tell her she shouldn’t really irritates me.
It’s not wrong to be a woman in what so often feels like a man’s world anyway. But I do know, from years as working in corporate america, that being a woman in a man’s world can be exhausting. Repressing your femininity in order to be taken seriously chips away are your soul. And it’s really not as effective as we all have bought into on some level, cause let’s face it, one appreciative look from a guy in a higher-up level than you and you are toast anyway. The rumors of you getting where you are on something other than your career talents will run rampant.
I think it’s time to stop giving away our power, our uniqueness as women. And we should be teaching our daughters the same.
What do you think? Am I overreacting? Yes or No? : )
