Throwing Cards:
I have been using tarot cards for 6 or 7 years now. I bought my first set of tarot cards after getting frustrated that I paid money to be told what I already knew. In fact for a while, that was the joke between my Mom and me. Whenever I would go get my cards read, my Mom and I would joke that I was going to go pay someone to tell me what I already knew/ felt. But in a way it was like getting a second opinion. But an irritating one, since I rarely learned anything new.
So, I decided to just go buy a deck and see what happened. For a while I really focused on trying to divine the future with them. This was probably because of where I was in my life – feeling a little bit not in control/ not at-cause over my life. But now, I use them mostly to get clarity. Yes, occasionally I will pull cards to ask about the next few weeks. But mostly I ask for clarity about a situation or person.
For example. I was irritated about something that happened this weekend. During mediation, I knew there must be another way of looking at what had happened, but I could not – no matter how hard I tried – find that other view point. So I threw cards – only 3 cards (problem, solution, result) and all of sudden – there was that other view point! A really powerful, at-cause, viewpoint. Beautiful.
I believe that cards are a way to help us access what we already know. It is a way to communicate with our higher-selves and our guides. (Yes I do believe we all have guides – even men like Rockefeller and Napoleon Hill believed everyone has guides, so this concept isn’t as “new age” as some might think.) And I feel that tarot cards can help us communicate/ get answers that are there for us to grab – without all the static that occurs when we ask a question and don’t really want to hear or see the answer. Because our emotions and our filters are standing in the way.
Does anyone else throw cards to receive clarity or new perspective? Or have another way to gain clarity and perspective?
