Sex & The City Girls
This weekend I went with some of my girlfriend to see Sex & The City 2. I think one of the reasons the series and now the movies are such a hit, is that so many of us can relate to the women. Some of us to one character, but probably most of us to all of them on some level.
As we were watching the movie – one of my girlfriends said I was “so Samantha.” I think this was because I was loving the whole Australian Rugby team in speedos scene. 😉 Yes I definitely have a sexual side. And I’m probably the most likely to talk about sex in public and not blink. But I don’t have Samantha’s take-charge sexual nature. And I prefer a monogamous sexual relationship. So yes, I am a little bit Samantha.
But I’m also a little bit Charlotte. I want kids, and a great husband. And I can totally relate to her Episcopalian upbringing. I can also relate to Miranda. I spent 13 years at a Big 4 consulting firm. And 3 years before that working at a large law firm. So I get the whole not having a life because you are working thing. And I definitely understand the challenges she faces in the series around her career that are due to her being a woman, with a voice, who is good at her job, but on some levels that’s still not enough for “the firm.”
And of course, on some level most women see themselves in Carrie. I’m a bit of a writer and of course creative. My wardrobe does not fit into one category – I can be conservative, I can be artsy or I can be total sex kitten. And last night when she said something like “I spent so many years going around the city like a crazy person trying to get the one guy I love to love me back.” Yeah, I so get that one too.
